Adaptive Skills Program. It consists of six components:
- Behavior - we utilize ABA techniques to decrease maladaptive behaviors and develop more appropriate behaviors
- Self-Advocacy – We teach money management, we teach American Sign Language, (ASL) through the P.A.L.E. (picture assisted language enhancement) program, food shopping by way of purchasing items at a store or using our in-house store.
- Leisure – Ceramics, arts & Crafts, sculpture, painting, woodworking, hydroponic gardening, computer, rock climbing, and equestrian.
- Community safety – how to avoid traffic and pedestrian safety.
- Community integration – the clients integrate with local businesses in the community. The Community based program allows our clients to be in an environment outside their peer group, where they establish relationships and perform meaningful tasks.
Adventure Therapy
Our Community Partners...
Community integration is a key component of the Program and provides the clients with enormous pride and self worth.
- One Generation – the clients participate in food shopping for the elderly, then deliver the food to the homes of the elderly
- Midnight Mission – the clients serve lunch to the homeless. The clients work as servers.
- Animal Shelter – the clients help with general maintenance and dog walking.
- Pico Adobe- this is a museum, where clients clean the patio area and perform other janitorial duties.
- Bernardi Center – this is a day center, where our clients perform janitorial duties.
- Salvation Army – this is an after school center, where clients perform janitorial duties.
- Space Vector – within the Space Vector complex, clients perform janitorial duties and water office plants.
